How Does The Insurance Process Work?

Making a claim can be a confusing time. There is so much to consider and there can often be a lot of suppliers or people involved in the process from the initial clean up and restoration of damaged buildings or items to getting the property back. There are many steps in between the initial contact with your insurance company and the house being returned back to you in the state it was before you made the claim.

The important thing to know is that we at Rainbow International in West Yorkshire are here to help you through that process. Our team is always available to answer any questions and help you during this time. It can be a difficult process but we’re always available to help you. These are usually the steps involved in the insurance process.

Step 1 – the initial phone call

Once the event (fire or flood) has occurred you decide to make the phone call to your insurance company to let them know that you have a problem and that you would like to make a claim on your insurance policy.
The insurance company will ask you a few questions and send in an alert to our head office in Mansfield.

Step 2 – send in the experts

Once you have notified your insurance company the best practice is for them to get in touch with ourselves as the experts in fire and flood restoration. We will attend site at the earliest possible convenience and make a full on-site assessment on behalf of your insurance company of the damage to buildings and contents.

Your insurance company cannot physically be with you therefore they give us the authority to make assessments, calm your fears and carry, answer the many questions you may have and importantly out any ‘mitigation’ work which will stop any further damage from happening. We cannot reverse what has already happened, but we can make sure that no more damage occurs to your property or contents.
The assessments we make are then sent via a report to your insurance company outlining all the damage that had occurred and what steps will need to be taken to put the property back to how it was before the event (fire or flood) happened.

Step 3 – restoration phase

The third phase or stage of the insurance process is for the Rainbow to carry out the works that we have identified during the assessment. This can take the form of removing sodden carpets and wall coverings to install drying equipment or beginning the clean up after a major fire.
This phase is crucial as the work we carry out here will set the tone for the rest of the process.

Step 4 – moving to reinstatement

Once the initial restoration work has been carried out by Rainbow, the claim moves onto the next  phase when the house is put back to how it was prior the event. In this phase depending on how  extensive the damage is we can see authorised builders, decorators and flooring companies enter  each carrying out their own part of the claim.
Everybody works as quickly and diligently as possible to complete their part of the claim as quickly as possible.

Step 5 – you get your home back

All the work has been completed and the house is returned back to you as it was before the event  too place (maybe with some new shiny bits too).
